Welcome to the banks of the Dordogne, designated a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Whether you’re seeking the wild tranquility of a secluded cove or the comfort of a fully equipped space, the Périgord Noir is full of spots to take a dip.

For those who enjoy peace and quiet and the great outdoors, these access points allow you to enjoy the riverbanks firsthand. Swimming is permitted here, but you are solely responsible for your own safety.

Please note: Here, authenticity is key! Forget the fine sand of the Atlantic coast; the Dordogne riverbed offers you lovely pebble beaches smoothed by the current. Be sure to bring some water shoes for added comfort.

For maximum safety and guaranteed comfort, choose areas with lifeguards on duty.


Outdoor municipal swimming pools

  • Sarlat Municipal Swimming Pool Swimming pool featuring a pool surrounded by a sun deck. Open from early July through September 20, 2026

  • Audrix Municipal Swimming Pool Open from July 4 to August 31, 2026

  • Montignac-Lascaux Municipal Natural Pool Open on June 18, 21, 24, and 28, then from July 4 through August 31; closed on Thursdays and Friday mornings. On July 11, 2026, due to the Tour de France, swimming will be available from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

    Developed bodies of water and water parks

  • Tamniès Lake Open from late June to late August (swimming is supervised from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

  • Lake Groléjac Open from mid-June to late August

  • At the Bos Ponds in Saint-Chamassy

  • La Saule Water Park in Bétaille

  • Jacquou Park in Saint-Félix de Reilhac

  • Quercyland in Souillac
